Many vehicle components such as ABS/ESP, steering column, power steering, ACC, AHK or automatic climate control have their own control units.

In Embedded Software Development for control units, a real-time operating system adapted for the vehicle manufacturer is usually used, such as Elektrobit tresos, which provides basic functions such as boot loader, Autosar functionality and device drivers (EEPROM, CAN, etc.).

In the non-automotive sector, FreeRTOS is also very often used as an “operating system” for control units.
