Engine control units for TDI engines are, for example, the Bosch MSA12, MSA15, EDC15, EDC16 or EDC17. Other well-known manufacturers of engine control units are Delphi, Magneti Marelli or Siemens VDO.

Many vehicle components such as ABS/ESP, steering column, power steering, ACC, AHK or automatic climate control have their own control units.

The embedded software of ECUs usually uses a real-time operating system adapted for the vehicle manufacturer, such as Elektrobit tresos, which provides basic functions such as bootloader, autosar functionality and device drivers (EEPROM, CAN, etc.).
